Home Alone House: Inside The McCallister House 30 Years Later!

I do love the wallpaper that we get a glimpse of here in the living room of the home. Another shot across the kitchen/breakfast area. This is in the early part of the movie when Kevin first realizes he is alone and can do whatever he wishes. So he’s running, running, running through the house because there’s no one home to tell he can’t.

Not only that, but the crew had to take care to avoid having his car and tire marks in the snow footage they were shooting. At the time of filming, the Abendshien family lived in the Winnetka house. They’d met the film’s location manager when they lived in Evanston. At first, the location manager expressed interest in using their Winnetka home for the Hughes film Uncle Buck, but that didn’t work out.

Robin…I love Mr. Mom…haven't watched that movie in a long time. Here’s another glimpse…complete with red and green china! If you were making or in this movie, do you think you’d be sick of red and green by the time it was over? Nah… You can see the door to the laundry chute in this pic. Would you ever use those drapes in this room with this wallpaper?

It was dark out “supposedly” when this scene was shot, but I bet this would be a cool room during the daytime with light streaming in through the dormer windows. Looking back down the hall from the attic stairs as Kevin is told goodnight by his Mom, and he is telling her that he would be happy if his family just disappeared. A glimpse up the attic stairs where Kevin will be sleeping this night… We see red candles against green walls and more green matted prints/paintings. "It looks different than the fans might expect (i.e. no plaid wallpaper)… but that's Hollywood!" Hopkins told Insider. But for the most part, the house looked about the same between 1990 until 2012, when the Abendshien family sold it. The kitchen where the family gathers to eat pizza before things start to go haywire for our young protagonist looks very similar to the kitchen in the actual house.

For her, the fight to stay sober is a familiar one. At the Women’s Harvest House, Pastor Cathy Haden from God’s Gathering Place, plays an important role in the women’s lives. Fargis will not leave Harvest House anytime soon, as it’s become her safe haven. This isn’t the first time that Fargis has been to the Women’s Harvest House but she said it’s been different this time. Fargis lives in the Women’s Harvest House, a ministry through Harvest Outreach, a Christ-centered recovery home for women overcoming addictions.

Everything You Want to Know About the 'Warm and Menacing' House in the Original 'Home Alone'

The fact Molly was the kindest character to Kevin in the Home Alone films is a dead giveaway. Home Alone 4 is the only film in the series to feature a twist revealing a villain. This is the only film in the series where Marv calls Kevin by name and vice-versa. Both Alex and Kevin use a dumbwaiter to get to the upper and lower floors of the houses. The film has only a loose continuity with the first two films, which gives the impression of it being a spiritual sequel, a loose reboot, or a standalone film.

very young, as your mom and me... I want that the children are with me

While a large portion of the movie was filmed on a soundstage, shots of the home’s interior can still be found in the film. The scenes of the foyer’s grand staircase and the living room were the real-life Home Alone house. There were, however, some tiny changes made to facilitate some scenes in the film. For example, new wallpaper was added to make the house more festive.

Now living with his mom, he decides to spend Christmas with his dad at the mansion of his father's rich girlfriend, Natalie. Meanwhile robber Marv Merchants, one of the villains from the first two movies, partners up with a new criminal named Vera to hit Natalie's mansion. In the movie's original ending, Kevin's parents didn't get back together. His father stayed with Natalie, and his mother started dating a police officer who turned out to be Marv's younger, more honest brother. This was changed when the producers decided they wanted the film to set up a TV series, and so Kevin's parents did get back together at the end, while the police officer was deleted altogether from the script.

Production

Reportedly, one fan included the Abendshien daughter, who recognized the views from the Geller-Bing household as the ones she was seeing from her own house. Apparently, stock footage from the film was used. The Winnetka house made a return in Home Alone 2 but seems to have gone into retirement—that is, until Friends'Monica and Chandler purchased it, or at least appeared to. If you want to compare your own home to the Home Alone House, according to Realtor.com, the house is 4,243 square feet and sits on a lot size of just over half an acre. In 2012, the Abendshiens, empty nesters at that point, sold the Winnetka house for a reported $1.585 million.

Oh, and the back door down the set of stairs outside – that actually wasn’t real. A backhoe was brought in to dig up that part of the property so that a fake door and steps could be added in. Kevin’s treehouse was also specifically built for the film and ended up being taken down after filming wrapped. For decades now, people have visited the “Home Alone House” on Lincoln Avenue.

Understandably, the current owners don’t want to be that vocal about their ownership of one of the most popular houses in the country and haven’t been seen on camera. Unfortunately, that was a one-time-only event and the house is not available for regular rentals. The Home Alone house—which, according to Zillow, boasts six bedrooms and six baths, is located at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois. In November 2020, Disney began to feature the first three Home Alone films on their streaming service Disney+ in celebration of the first film's 30th anniversary. The fourth and fifth installments were released on HBO Max and were added to Disney+ on December 17, 2021. The film premiered on television on November 3, 2002, and was released on DVD on September 2, 2003.

- is probably horrified that they turned his great movie series into a horrible, disgraceful, peice of trash? I liked, no, loved, the first two Home Alone movies. They should at least stay with the original actors, and it could have Kevin be like 20 years old, and visiting his father for Christmas.
